The future of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard looks to be closer to being resolved, with reports on Sunday revealing who is most likely to land the Arsenal and Manchester United target.

The France international right-back, who favours playing more centrally, has been on United’s radar for a number of weeks while the Gunners only joined the race for his signature recently.

The 27-year-old’s versatility makes him an extremely attractive proposition for either club as they eye a deal before the summer window shuts on September 1.

United, however, will need to offload players first to get a deal done, with Donny van de Beek, Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay all still on the chopping block.

As for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta is looking at Pavard purely as a centre-back after losing summer signing Jurrien Timber to an ACL injury in the opening game of the season.

However, Football Insider reports that Inter Milan have jumped ahead of the Premier League duo in their bid to land the Frenchman.

The Italian giants are currently rebuilding their squad and view Pavard as an ideal building block going forward. It’s also believed that the player himself is leading towards moving to the San Siro.

Pavard made 43 appearances for Bayern in the 2022-23 campaign, playing both centrally and on the right-flank for the German giants as they retained their Bundesliga title, scoring seven times.

Pavard dropped for Bundesliga opener

And while he started their hugely disappointing loss to RB Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup last weekend, Pavard was dropped to the bench for Friday’s opening Bundesliga win at Werder Bremen.

At this stage, it’s unclear whether his role as an unused substitute in the game has anything to do with an imminent transfer – although given how late into the window we are there is every chance that is the case.

Bayern are not back in action again until next Sunday when they host FC Augsburg, by which time Pavard’s future could well have been resolved.
