As we approach the business end of the transfer window, a report from Gerard Romero has claimed that a meeting between Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, assistant manager Oscar Hernandez, and sporting directors Mateu Alemany and Deco took place today.
The Barcelona quartet will likely have discussed in detail the club’s transfer movements at a time when certain positions are yet to be filled.
What’s on Barcelona’s agenda?
The agenda of the meeting at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper is likely to have been the pending operations that Barcelona are keen on closing, both incoming and outgoing, before the transfer window closes.
Alemany reminded last night that Dembele is already in Paris ahead of his move to PSG.
“We are in the process of resolving the transfer. Dembélé is no longer in the first team dynamic, otherwise, he would have been at the Gamper,” he said.
“Dembélé is in Paris. When the agreement is signed, we will communicate the figures of the operation and with that, we close another folder.”
Franck Kessie is another who is on the verge of departing while the Blaugrana are still exploring avenues for players like Sergino Dest and Clement Lenglet.
At the same time, however, player registration is of utmost importance and the meeting of the quartet will possibly have that discussion as well.
“The necessary exits have been made, on the other hand, we are in the process of resolving the issue of registrations.
“We are pending two payments that have not been made. I am always optimistic, now we only think about registering everyone,” Alemany was quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Who’s on the radar?
It goes without saying that Barcelona are one of the busiest clubs in the ongoing transfer market.
So far, they have made several signings in Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, and Inigo Martinez, while Vitor Roque’s transfer has also been sealed.
But the management wants more numbers to be added to the roster. At the moment, a midfielder and a right-back are said to be Barcelona’s priority.
For the right-back slot, Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo had been topping the list but a move now appears unlikely. The likes of Ivan Fresneda and Juan Foyth are seen as alternatives.
As far as signing a midfielder is concerned, Bernardo Silva had been the absolute priority, but the doors on that move appear to be shut now, with Giovani Lo Celso the chosen backup.
