Barcelona do not have many left-wing options heading into the new season. Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal all prefer starting on the right side on the forward line, leaving Ez Abde as the only pure left-winger.
It is unclear whether Xavi Hernandez will count on a fourth midfielder or a pure winger to play on the left flank.
But the importance of a natural winger like Abde in the current setup can not be understated. The management, including Xavi, have transmitted to the Moroccan star that he will have regular playing time this season and that they are satisfied with his level.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis are aware of the latest development and have thus withdrawn from the race to sign Abde. They will now redirect their efforts towards alternate options.
Abde had an agreement with Betis
The La Masia star’s quality has never been in question. Abde shone right from the first pre-season game for Barcelona this season but was still held at the exit door considering Barcelona’s financial situation.
He thus, did not shy away from talking to interested parties. Convinced by the project at Benito Villamarin, Abde reportedly even reached an agreement with Real Betis despite interest from Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen.
Barcelona will not sell him
At one point, it appeared like Barcelona hoped to procure a reasonable fee from the Moroccan international’s sale, but it is now clear that they value his skill more than his price tag.
Yesterday, reports surfaced that Barcelona had shut the exit door for Abde despite worries over their FFP situation.
The player’s agent even visited the club to clarify the situation and understand the management’s faith in his client.
With Real Betis now withdrawing from the race, it can be said with certainty that the youngster will play for the Blaugrana this season.
