Saudi Arabia has become home to several of Europe’s best players over the past few months. The up-and-coming league has even been in business with Barcelona, with Frank Kessie close to joining Al-Ahli.
According to reports from Javi Miguel, the Middle-East-based league’s interest in Barcelona’s players does not end there.
There is a club from Saudi Arabia willing to make a shock move for La Masia star Ansu Fati and the offer is said to be ‘irresistible’.
Fati’s complicated situation
Given his young age, Fati expects regular minutes under his belt next season. After all, he did not receive many in the 2022/23 campaign under Xavi Hernandez.
The Spanish tactician, however, cannot guarantee Fati regular playing time. The 20-year-old has indeed stepped up in recent games but has not shown enough to warrant an assured starting spot.
Yesterday, reports emerged that PSG were eyeing Fati’s signature and that the player was open to leaving the club of his dreams. After all, Luis Enrique trusts the player and assures him of minutes in Paris.
An offer he cannot refuse
Saudi Arabia cannot yet tempt players through sporting promises. After all, they fall outside UEFA’s jurisdiction and are away from the world’s elite.
The Arabian clubs have therefore resorted to economic manoeuvres to lure players to their league. High wages, tax benefits, and lucrative bonuses often do the trick.
For a player of Fati’s calibre and age, one can expect a mammoth offer from Saudi Arabia and it will likely be an irresistible one for the youngster.
However, as per Gerard Romero, the lure of Saudi Arabia is not tempting for Fati and he will say no to the proposal.
Barcelona need the sale more than ever
Joan Laporta seemingly had Barcelona’s economic situation under control. The club president was close to securing an investment in return for a 16% stake in Barça Studios and the incoming funds would be used to register the first team players.
That plan has now slowed down and with the season set to start in less than a week, the Catalans are in dire need of a financial injection to help register the new signings and new contracts, and Fati could be the pawn sacrificed.
