Atletico legend hits out at Felix after superb Barcelona start: “Two matches”

Many doubted Joao Felix’s ability to come good at Barcelona ahead of his loan move on deadline day. After all, the Portuguese winger had not shown much in his spells at Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.

Coming in the Catalan setup, however, he has turned up the heat. Felix made a positive short came against Osasuna in Barcelona’s win over Osasuna and has taken the driver’s seat ever since.

The 23-year-old received his first start of the season against Real Betis last weekend where he scored the team’s opener and set up Lewandowski beautifully for the second.

Midweek, Felix took Royal Antwerp to the cleaners in the UEFA Champions League with his comprehensive display. He scored two goals and registered one assist on the night.

Just two games into his spell at Barcelona, fans and pundits have gone on to declare Felix’s move a success. After all, he looks rejuvenated and has shown a great understanding of the role given to him.

Earlier this week, former Atletico Madrid captain and club legend Diego Godin spoke to the media about Felix’s move to Catalonia. He had sour words for the Portuguese winger and deemed that he could not be called a success yet.

“I have nothing against Joao Felix, I don’t know him. We can’t talk about him succeeding at Barça after two matches. At Atleti, he never understood what the locker room meant. The group is above any individual,” he stated, as per Cadena SER.

Barcelona worry about Felix’s situation next summer

Barcelona are worried about the repercussions of Felix’s unbelievable start to life in Catalonia. After all, the player has arrived on loan with no fixed option to purchase.

The youngster’s contract with Atletico Madrid runs until 2029, and Los Rojiblancos will ask for at least €80 million for his transfer next summer. If Felix continues to perform at this level, however, it will be hard for Barça to pass the chance to sign him.
