Over the past 24 hours or so, there has been a lot of concern at Barcelona owing to the ankle injury sustained by future star Vitor Roque.
The 18-year-old, who was signed in the summer but stayed put at Athletico Paranaense, was on the receiving end of a harsh challenge during a game earlier this week and had to be stretchered off the field.
The initial prognosis did not appear all too good and soon reports emerged that the teenage striker might have to undergo surgery to treat his injury.
No surgery for Roque
It was even suggested that Vitor Roque could be out of action for close to three months.
The injury and possible recovery time did not change Barcelona’s plans to bring him into the squad in January, but still, a longer recovery time would have been a blow for the club.
However, now, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Roque will not be undergoing any surgery for his injury.
Instead, the soon-to-be Barcelona player will follow a conservative treatment to recuperate from the ankle injury.
It is further claimed that Athletico Paranaense expect Roque to be back in a minimum of 30-40 days.
Official statement
Athletico Paranaense have also released an official statement on Roque’s condition after the forward underwent tests last night and have confirmed that there is no necessity for surgery at this point.
“Vitor Roque underwent tests on Friday following a sprained right ankle suffered in the match against Internacional.
“Imaging tests and an assessment by the club’s medical department revealed a ligament injury to the syndesmosis of the right ankle, without the need for surgery.”
Barcelona will now be hoping that there are no further complications and that Roque’s recovery goes smoothly so that he is ready to play for them come 2024.
