Just 16 years of age and Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal is already on his way to becoming a global phenomenon.
Over the past five months, the teenage wonderkid has become the youngest-ever player to debut for Barcelona and the Spanish national team as well as the youngest goalscorer for La Roja when he found the back of the net on his debut against Georgia last week.
The winger had admitted that he felt like he was “living a dream” after his historic debut for the Spanish national team.
And now, during a chat with the RFEF’s official media channels (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Yamal discussed his maiden appearance for Spain, claiming that everything has been perfect thus far.
“I’m very happy for everything, for the victory, for the records and I hope to continue like this. I could imagine that at some point it could come, but not so fast, and that everything would turn out so well. I’m very happy,” Yamal said.
Opening up on how his debut came about and what manager Luis de la Fuente told him before he came on to the pitch, the 16-year-old said:
“I’ve always dreamed of making my debut for the national team and this was the perfect way to do it. The coach told me to go out calmly because Marco and Dani were injured, to warm up well, and to come out strong in the second half.”
Recalling his first goal for Spain on his debut, Yamal said: “The goal was a perfect move by Nico (Williams), who was doing very well to get away from his full-back. He left it for me to push it in and I felt I had to shoot it.”
The 16-year-old then revealed that he will be giving the shirts from his national team debut to his parents and that he wants to keep performing for Spain and win all titles possible.
“I keep the two shirts, one from each side, which are for my mum and dad to keep as a souvenir. I have a lot of them and these are special. I hope this is the beginning, winning many games and titles, helping the national team with goals and in any way I can,” he said.
