It is no secret that Barcelona have long been searching for an heir to Dani Alves in the right-back position.

And after several futile attempts to replace the Brazilian, it appears that the Blaugrana have finally found their man in Joao Cancelo.

The Portuguese international arrived on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City and in just two appearances has shown the difference he can make to the team.

Deco has confirmed that Barça do not have a buy option for Cancelo, but the Blaugrana will look to make his move permanent if he performs well.

Other options on the table

However, it appears that Barcelona are looking at other possible options to reinforce the right-back slot as alternatives.

And 90 Min’s Graeme Bailey is reporting that Barcelona hold an active interest in Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea captain Reece James.

Along with Barcelona, their arch-rivals Real Madrid are also very much interested in the England right-back duo as per the report.

Alexander-Arnold and James have established themselves as two of the best in their position in the Premier League and Europe.

However, the former’s defensive attributes have come into question in recent times whereas the latter has proven to be quite injury-prone.

Despite that, they remain on the radars of both Barça as well as Real Madrid.

Move unlikely

However, it must be noted that at this point a move for either Alexander-Arnold or James appears unlikely given the club’s iffy financial situation.

Furthermore, Alexander-Arnold is understood to be closing in on a new contract with Liverpool as per the aforementioned report.

Meanwhile, an alternate report from Graeme Bailey adds that James remains fully committed to Chelsea despite the links to Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich as well.

So, while Alexander-Arnold and James might be on the radars of Barcelona, it is more likely that the La Liga champions will focus on signing Cancelo on a permanent basis.
