Chelsea agree deal to sell Ian Maatsen to Burnley

Maatsen could leave Chelsea

Chelsea have agreed a deal to send left-back Ian Maatsen on loan to Burnley with an obligation for a permanent transfer next summer.

Maatsen excelled on loan with Burnley in the Championship last season and Chelsea initially rebuffed the Clarets' attempts to sign him permanently this summer, but a deal has now been struck between the two clubs.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that Chelsea have agreed to send Maatsen to Burnley on an initial loan which will become permanent next summer for a fee of £31.5m.

The deal is subject to approval from Maatsen himself.

Maatsen has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea and the Blues had been working to try and tie him down to an extension, but the decision has now been made to entertain offers.

With Ben Chilwell ahead of him in the pecking order, Maatsen has been restricted to two cameo appearances in the Premier League this season and has even been used in different positions as manager Mauricio Pochettino struggled to find a natural place for the Dutchman in his team.

Maatsen's future has been complicated by the collapse of talks with Manchester United over Marc Cucurella, who was a loan target for the Red Devils but will now remain at Chelsea beyond Friday's deadline.

A handful of Chelsea academy graduates are facing uncertain futures as the transfer window comes to its conclusion, with centre-back Trevoh Chalobah and midfielder Conor Gallagher both subject of interest.

Bayern Munich have made contact about both players and are currently focused on a loan deal for Chalobah, while Gallagher is a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
