Barcelona star midfielder Frenkie de Jong could return in time for El Clasico

Barcelona were dealt with a major blow this weekend as one of their star players Frenkie de Jong picked up an injury.

The Dutchman’s knock could keep him on the sidelines for a significant period and may even lead to him missing out on the crucial El Clasico on October 28.

The initial timeframe for de Jong’s injury was set for a little more than a month, meaning he was ruled out until November. But Barcelona are determined to have him back for the Clasico.

De Jong’s availability vs Real Madrid not ruled out

According to Mundo Deportivo, Frenkie de Jong has set out a clear objective to return to action before Barcelona’s clash against Real Madrid on October 28.

With five weeks in between, the midfielder will use the time to recover as quickly as possible. He is expected to work closely with Dr. Ricard Pruna, in that regard.

The Barcelona team doctors, in fact, do not rule out the possibility of seeing De Jong against Real Madrid at the end of next month.

For now, de Jong is expected to receive conservative treatment, and depending on his injury, a final decision will be made.

If it becomes certain that de Jong has recovered, Barcelona have not ruled out an anaesthetic infiltration of the area, in order to make him available for the club.

Xavi’s other options in midfield

De Jong’s injury comes at a time when Barcelona’s other star player Pedri is also recovering from his injury.

That leaves Xavi with limited options in the middle of the park, though he has some wild card at his disposal.

Not to mention, missing de Jong’s services against Real Madrid might not be the end of the world, as Barcelona are likely to have Pedri available for the game.
