Joao Felix elated after MOTM display in Barcelona 5-0 Antwerp: “Happy, enjoying myself”

Just three games into his Barcelona stint, Joao Felix is already establishing himself as a fan favourite.

The Portuguese international arrived on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid, and there was some skepticism surrounding his signing, given his struggles in the recent past.

But, after a fine performance on his first start for Barcelona against Real Betis, Felix was on song once again last night in the UEFA Champions League clash against Royal Antwerp.

The 23-year-old ended the game with two goals and an assist as Barça completed a 5-0 rout of the Belgian champions at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

Joao Felix was even named the official Man of the Match for his scintillating performance on Tuesday night.

The forward spoke to the media after the end of the match against Royal Antwerp last night and looked back upon his fine start at Barcelona, saying:

“We all had a great game. I am happy, and enjoying myself, my teammates help me a lot, I couldn’t do anything alone. I am here to help them like they help me.”

Following back-to-back 5-0 victories, there is a lot of good feeling surrounding Barcelona, and Joao Felix insisted that the players’ aim was to give joy to the fans.

“We have the aim of bringing joy to the club and the fans,” he said.

About the fanfare surrounding him and fellow new signing Joao Cancelo, Felix added:

“It’s normal to talk about the ‘Joaos’, because we arrived together, we debuted on the same day, we scored for the first time a goal on the same day… There are many beautiful coincidences.”
