Gabby Agbonlahor believes that £65million summer signing Kai Havertz ‘looks lost’ and could be dropped ahead of Sunday’s big clash with Manchester United.
The former Aston Villa striker also thinks Gunners boss Mikel Arteta “has a lot to answer for” if the 24-year-old’s move across London from Chelsea does not work out.
The German has started Arsenal’s first three Premier League outings playing in a central midfield role, much deeper than he did at Stamford Bridge.
Havertz, whose Emirates contract runs until 2028, scored nine times in 47 games for Chelsea last season despite playing as a forward.
And Agbonhalor is not impressed by what he has seen of Havertz in north London so far.
He told Football Insider: “I just look at Havertz and I can’t work out what his best attribute is. He looks lost as to what his actual position is.
“At least when you had Xhaka in there, you had someone who could time his runs, make a tackle, and pick out a player with a pass.
“With Havertz, there’s nothing. No attacking threat, no defensive responsibility.
“When this signing was first rumoured, everyone thought it was a joke.
“If this signing doesn’t work out, then Arteta’s got a lot to answer for. If he wasn’t good enough for Chelsea, why is he good enough for Arsenal?
“I just don’t think he fits the system, or the best 11 – and sooner or later, you have to drop him.”
