Manchester United and Barcelona target Vanderson admits it is ‘fantastic’ to be linked to big clubs but will stay loyal to Monaco for the time being.
The 22-year-old has been turning heads with his displays for Monaco since arriving in January 2022. The principality outfit paid Brazilian club Gremio around €11m for his signature. And it has turned out to be a decent investment, with the full-back having made 61 appearances in all competitions.
The Brazil international has started all four of Monaco’s league games in 2023-2024.
His form has helped Adi Hutter’s side to the top of the French top-flight table.
There is a long way to go but signs are positive as they lead Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille two points.
Monaco are known as a selling club and it will be tough for them to keep hold of the South American.
United were linked during the summer while Barca’s name was added to his list of suitors.
It was reported back in June that the Catalans want the starlet to reject any advances from Premier Legue clubs.
And they have urged him to wait for them to swoop next summer. Whether Vanderson is prepared to play ball only time will tell.
But it seems certain that he has ambitions to feature for one of Europe’s top clubs even if his current loyalty remains in France.
“It’s great to hear Barcelona and United ‘love’ you”, he told Diario AS.
“It’s fantastic to know your name is being mentioned by the big clubs. But, now I’m focused only on Monaco.”
Big two set for Vanderson battle
Vanderson is a versatile player who can fill a couple of roles. He can play as an orthodox right-back or as a right wing-back and seems comfortable in either position.
He is under contract at Stade Louis-II until the summer of 2027. And it appears as though the man from Rondonopolis was initially valued at around £20m.
However, with clubs of the stature of Manchester United and Barca on the case, it has been reported that his price tag is now north of £50m.
That will not scare either club although the La Liga giants’ financial troubles have been well documented in recent years.
Vanderson is clearly a talented individual with a big future in the game.
He is learning his trade at Monaco but will surely not be there beyond next summer.
Other clubs may well enter the race especially if he enjoys another stellar campaign in the south of France.
His comments will certainly be music to the ears of those interested parties.
United have Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their current right-back. He has been given the nod in all four of United’s league games this season.
But the jury is still out on whether he is the long-term answer.
