Speaking in an interview with Polish outlet Meczyki (h/t Mundo Deportivo), PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hinted that he had an interest in signing Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski in the past.
After enjoying a record-breaking stint at Bayern Munich, Lewandowski opted to leave the club and sign for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022.

During the time, though, there were murmurs of interest from PSG as well, but the 35-year-old Poland captain opted for Barça, where he has been an instant hit.
During his chat, Al-Khelaifi revealed his admiration for Lewandowski and dropped a hint that there had been considerations made about signing the veteran goalscorer in the past.
“I have a policy of not talking about players who are not at PSG and about transfers that will happen or were supposed to happen. But it’s no secret that Robert is an incredible striker. Every club in the world looked at him and at some point thought about signing him,” Al-Khelaifi said.
“But Robert is at Barcelona today and I respect him. There weren’t many snipers like that scoring goals in almost every game. He is a goal-scoring machine and a great guy. We met and I can only speak highly of him,” he added.
Al-Khelaifi willing to welcome Barcelona back into ECA
Relations between Al-Khelaifi and Barcelona have not been in the best state, with the PSG president having taken aim at the club in the recent past due to the Super League Project.
Al-Khelaifi also happens to be the president of the European Club Association (ECA) and insisted he would welcome Barcelona and Real Madrid back into the ECA if they wished to return.
“I can assure you that both clubs are welcome in the ECA family. Maybe there will be a return? I met Laporta some time ago. I guess they have no choice. We would like them to be with us. I am against quarrels and any conflict,” he said.
“I think we can work together on the issue of football development. If they want to continue to do something on their own, it will simply be their choice. For me, the most important thing is to bring all the clubs together.
“Every action comes down to ensuring that the clubs associated with ECA remain united. They wanted to divide us, but we have become even stronger!”
