PSG president offers Kylian Mbappe update on transfer deadline day

Mbappe's future remains unclear

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted he has held "very good conversations" with Kylian Mbappe as the French side seek to resolve the uncertainty over his future.

Mbappe was made available for transfer earlier this summer when he declined to trigger the extension in his contract which, as it stands, is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Since being left out of the pre-season squad, Mbappe has been reintegrated into Luis Enrique's team and already has three goals in just 129 minutes of Ligue 1 action this season.

Mbappe, for his part, has always insisted he plans to spend this coming campaign with PSG but has dodged talk of a potential contract extension, with Al-Khelaifi now taking the same stance.

"There are just 24 hours left [of the transfer window]," Al-Khelaifi told RMC Sport. "Kylian is a PSG player.

"We are having very good discussions with him, he is a magnificent player, person and professional. We have discussed with the rest of his family.

"An extension? I do not want to talk about that."

Real Madrid remain keen on signing Mbappe but made it clear early in the summer window they were not prepared to be drawn into a lengthy saga once again.

The Spanish side do not want to pay an enormous fee to sign Mbappe, who can discuss a free transfer to Madrid in January, but remain determined to land the 24-year-old's signature by 2024 at the latest.

PSG are still looking to tie Mbappe down to a new contract as they seek to avoid losing arguably the most valuable player in world football for free in less than 12 months.
