Tottenham close to offloading centre-back for a fraction of his transfer fee

Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Tottenham, August 2022

Tottenham are reportedly ready to offload a centre-back to Turkey in the coming days, despite the player having a role to play from the bench for Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs can still offload players to certain countries despite the transfer window closing in England on Friday, and it appears that former record-signing Davinson Sanchez could be sold next.

According to transfer insider Rudy Galetti, the 27-year-old is closing in on a move to Galatasaray. Indeed, the final details of the transfer should be ironed out soon, with the two clubs currently working to finalise the move.

Selling Sanchez now would be somewhat of a shock, given that he is the third-choice centre-back behind Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

The Colombian was handed a start in the Carabao Cup loss at Fulham, missing the key penalty in the shootout, and also played the majority of the opening weekend draw at Brentford after an injury to Romero.

The fact that Eric Dier remains out of favour under Postecoglou and Japhet Tanganga has been allowed to go out on loan means Spurs would be incredibly light at centre-back if Sanchez leaves too.

However, Galetti claims that Galatasaray is an ideal move for Sanchez, who can get his career back on track with regular first-team action in Turkey.

Sanchez not the only Tottenham star wanted in Turkey

Galatasaray, who are also after Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, needed to bring in defensive reinforcements and Sanchez fits the bill perfectly, despite struggling during the majority of his time in north London.

The details of the transfer are yet to emerge but the report from Galetti claims that a permanent deal is likely, with Tottenham recouping around £17million for a player who cost them £42m back in 2017.

If the transfer does go through, Postecoglou is expected to bring Dier back into the frame, while summer signing Ashley Phillips could also be asked to step up.

High-flying Tottenham are not back in Premier League action until September 16 when they host Sheffield United in the Premier League.
