Barcelona keeping tabs on Arsenal striker, likely to face competition from Real Madrid

It is no secret that Barcelona have lacked depth in the centre-forward position this season. The injury of Robert Lewandowski, coupled with the exits of some players in the summer has had an impact on the team.

That has led to Barça working overtime to try and get their hands on Vitor Roque in the upcoming January transfer window. But it appears the club are also keeping tabs on other attackers in the market.

Gabriel Jesus on Barcelona’s radar

One of the players Barcelona are targeting appears to be Gabriel Jesus.

According to AS (h/t ESPN), the Catalans are closely monitoring the progress of the Arsenal forward, who recently starred in a Champions League game against Sevilla.

Jesus joined Arsenal last year in a deal worth €52 million. Since then, the forward has racked up 15 goals and nine assists in 44 competitive matches.

It appears Barcelona have taken stock of his performances at Emirates and are exploring the possibility of snapping him up in the near future.

Barcelona, however, are likely to face stiff competition from none other than Real Madrid, in the race to sign Gabriel Jesus.

Both clubs, after all, were strongly linked with a move for the former Manchester City star before his transfer to Arsenal in 2022.

Real Madrid are serious about signing a forward as they continue to look for a replacement for Karim Benzema, who joined Al Ittihad this summer.

Not to mention, the club from the capital have the financial superiority over their rivals, meaning they could easily trump Barcelona, should a race ensue.

Gabriel, though, might not be the only option for these two clubs, in their bid to sign a new striker. In any case, signing the Brazilian could be a costly affair, with Arsenal likely to hold out for a lucrative valuation.
