Barcelona weighing up re-signing 20-year-old former La Masia whizkid from PSG

Xavi Simons had been tipped for a bright future at a very young age when he was coming through Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy.

However, before he could make the first team, the young attacker opted to leave the club for PSG in 2019, where he enjoyed his professional breakthrough.

Talk of a possible return to Barcelona have done the rounds in the past and once again there appears to be some interest from the Catalan giants.

Barcelona ‘probing’ Xavi Simons’ return

Indeed, as per a report from Adrian Sanchez, Barcelona are weighing up the possibility of re-signing Xavi Simons and have probed into the possibility of a move.

Having not received enough minutes with the senior setup in PSG, the 20-year-old opted to move to PSV Eindhoven in 2022, a move that worked like a charm for him.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a stunning season in the Netherlands, prompting PSG to exercise a buyback option for him earlier this year, following which they loaned him out to RB Leipzig.

Now in Germany, Simons has once again been in fine nick, bagging three goals and four assists in six Bundesliga matches.

It has been enough to grab the attention of Barcelona as well as Manchester City, who are considering a swoop for the 20-year-old.

PSG reluctant to sell

While there may be growing interest in Simons from Barcelona and Manchester City, PSG are understood to be reluctant to part ways with him.

Having re-signed him earlier this year, they have the Dutch international tied down to a contract until 2027. And considering how he is faring at RB Leipzig, they want the youngster in their ranks next season.

So, it remains to be seen if Barcelona’s ‘probes’ into the possible signing of the former La Masia whizkid lead to something come summer next year.
