Newcastle predicted lineup vs PSG - Champions League

Newcastle celebrate Miguel Almiron's goal against Burnley but he could lose his place in midweek

After earning a hard-fought point at Milan on Matchday 1, Newcastle are back at St. James' Park where they play host to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Kylian Mbappe and company will be enjoying the luxuries of Tyneside this week as PSG attempt to make it two wins from two in Group F, but the fervent Toon Army will make life incredibly tough for the visitors.

Newcastle fans have waited over 20 years for a night like this, and here's the starting XI they could be willing on when Les Parisiens come to town.

Tino Livramento

GK: Nick Pope - Pope was outstanding at San Siro, and he's in for another busy outing on Wednesday night.

RB: Kieran Trippier - A model of consistency down Newcastle's right, Trippier will be tasked with shutting down one of the world's best in Mbappe.

CB: Fabian Schar - The imposing Swiss defender will rekindle his partnership with Lascelles on Wednesday after the pair kept a clean sheet against Burnley at the weekend. A slightly tougher test awaits Newcastle's centre-back tandem.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles - The former skipper has been thrust to the periphery since Sven Botman's arrival, but an injury to the Dutchman should see Lascelles start against a formidable PSG frontline.

LB: Tino Livramento - Howe surely won't leave Dan Burn on an island with Ousmane Dembele and could instead utilise the nifty Livramento on the opposite flank. The summer arrival starred in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester City last week.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes - We're starting to see the best of Bruno after a pretty slow start to the season. The Magpies need their magnificent metronome on top form in this one.

CM: Sandro Tonali - Tonali has failed to match the lofty heights of his debut performance in recent weeks, but the Italian's a sure bet to start on Wednesday after earning a rest at the weekend.

CM: Sean Longstaff - Howe would likely have turned to Joelinton on Wednesday after starting the Brazilian as a substitute against Burnley. But his withdrawal after just four minutes with an apparent hamstring injury could see Longstaff keep his place as Newcastle seek to overwhelm PSG's pivot with their intensity out of possession.

RW: Jacob Murphy - Here's where we see the pragmatic side to Howe, and it's necessary. Workhorse Murphy could make a second consecutive Champions League start and aid Trippier defensively down the Magpies' right.

ST: Alexander Isak - Newcastle will turn to the Swede to produce their magic in the final third. Isak has scored in three consecutive games heading into this one.

LW: Anthony Gordon - Gordon has come into his own at the start of 2023/24 after enduring a slow start to his Newcastle career. The young Englishman will relish this occasion and seek to make a name for himself on the biggest stage.
