Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal will be leaving the Spain national team camp, La Roja have officially confirmed.
The 16-year-old had been called up to the national team for their UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers against Scotland and Norway over the coming days.
However, the teenage wonderkid sustained a minor injury during Barça’s last La Liga clash against Granada.
After that, it was reported that Yamal would not join the Spain camp, but the RFEF insisted on having him in the concentration to carry their own tests and see if he could play some part in one of the two qualifying encounters.
As such, Yamal linked up with the rest of the squad last night even though he was still feeling the discomfort from his injury.
Tests were carried out yesterday and Spain have now confirmed that Yamal will be leaving the national team, with a statement that read:
“The international Lamine Yamal leaves the Spanish national team camp after being evaluated by the medical services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
“It was determined that he will not be able to participate in the next two qualifiers for Euro 2024, which will pit Spain against Scotland in Seville and Norway in Oslo.”
Reports previously suggested that Yamal could take around ten days to recover from his fitness problem, which gives Barcelona hope that he could be ready in time to face Athletic Club after the international break.
