Aladdin: FAM punishment the best lesson for Selangor FC

KUALA LUMPUR: The fines and suspensions meted out by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to Selangor FC, who were found to have committed several infractions during the 2023 Malaysia League (M-League), will be the best lesson for the team for next season.

Selangor FC chief operating officer Aladdin Mostafa (pix) said they take full responsibility for the hefty punishment meted out, which he described as appropriate, following the unsportsmanlike actions of their players, officials and supporters. “Yes, we made mistakes based on the behaviour and charges stated... hopefully,

it will be a lesson for us at the management level and the staff involved. “We will now inculcate a more passive and less emotional culture besides asking our supporters to avoid repeating the same mistakes. It’s not wrong to be hardcore supporters, but there are limits,” he told Bernama.

He said this when met after the launch of the 2023 Raja Muda of Selangor Charity Golf Tournament here today. Yesterday, Selangor FC was one of the teams to pay a hefty price when they were fined by the FAM Disciplinary Board for several offences during this season’s M-League campaign.

The Red Giants were fined RM23,000 on three charges, which they cannot appeal against, following offences committed during the Malaysia Cup quarter-final return-leg match against Terengganu FC at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Sept 24.

Among the offences are throwing a water bottle from the spectators’ seating area towards the match officials; hurling a water bottle towards a group of referees in the tunnel as the teams headed to the dressing room; and failing to ensure the safety of the match officials after the match. Meanwhile, a player and five Selangor FC officials were also fined a total of RM65,000, with some of them also suspended. -Bernama
