Clement Lenglet was one of many Barcelona players that left the club on a loan deal elsewhere, before the start of the season.
However, a recent report pointed out that Barcelona are considering recalling the Frenchman following his lack of game-time at Villa Park.
Lenglet has indeed failed to feature in a single Premier League match so far this season and has been underutilized by Unai Emery.
Aston Villa unlikely to cut short Lenglet’s loan deal
However, Barcelona won’t have to worry about Clement Lenglet returning to Camp Nou earlier than expected.
That is because Unai Emery is extremely happy with Lenglet’s performances in the Premier League, reports Diario SPORT.
Although the Frenchman has yet to start a single game in the Premier League, he has become an undisputed starter in Conference League matches.
The former Sevilla star, in fact, has played a key role in helping Aston Villa emerge as two of the top teams in Group E, alongside Legia Warszawa.
Aston Villa, therefore, has no desire to cut short or terminate the loan contract of Lenglet, which expires at the end of the season.
Lenglet unlikely to stay beyond
At the same time, though, the report suggests it is very unlikely that Aston Villa would be able to keep hold of Lenglet beyond his contract.
That means it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for Lenglet to continue his stay at Aston Villa.
This is largely because Lenglet was signed as a replacement for Tyrone Mings, who had picked up an ACL injury. But with the Englishman set to return next season, Aston Villa are well-covered in the position.
Barcelona, therefore, may have to find yet another suitor for Lengle when he returns to Camp Nou next summer. This time around, the Catalans must find a permanent fix for the defender’s future.
