Florian Wirtz has continued to mesmerise fans with his performances in the German Bundesliga.
The Bayer Leverkusen starlet has emerged as the pearl of German football and is enjoying an excellent season under the leadership of Xabi Alonso.
Needless to say, Wirtz’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with a host of clubs keen on securing his services at the end of the season.
Barcelona are among the clubs monitoring the situation of the young attacker, although the operation could be difficult.
Barcelona in a tough position
A recent report from Diario SPORT has highlighted how difficult the operation could be for Barcelona to sign Florian Wirtz.
Certain factors do favour Barça. Fernando Carro, CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, is from Barcelona. He is also very close to the club and has a membership.
However, despite these factors, Barcelona are in a difficult position to sign Wirtz. Especially when it comes to the economic side of things, the club are in a precarious position.
That is because Wirtz is easily expected to cost around the €100 million range while the player himself is eyeing a move to England.
That means Barcelona cannot utilise the synergy they have with Carro and the player is likely to end up elsewhere.
Competition from Real Madrid
It is also worth mentioning that English clubs are not the only competition for Barcelona, in the race to sign Florian Wirtz.
The German international is also courted by arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are keen on shoring up their options in the attacking department next summer.
Therefore, it is perhaps wise for Barça to look at other alternatives in the market. The club have recently been linked with a move for Leroy Sane, but nothing has advanced on that front.
