Barcelona host one of the best base of youth players in their team, with the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, and Alejandro Balde all under 21.
Two of these — Pedri and Gavi — have already won the Golden Boy award, in successive years, and are already among the best midfielders in the world.
However, Barcelona are foraging the transfer market in search of new midfielders that can start competing with their starting lineup with a couple years’ time, and have set their eyes on a certain Alvaro Montoro.
According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by SPORT, Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Montoro, who is 16 right now. They are in pole position for the transfer, and could make the move possible by either January or the summer transfer window.
Player prioritises Barcelona move
Barcelona have been scouting Montoro for a while now, and have already spoken with his entourage. In fact, a few months ago, they visited the club facilities in Spain.
There is a ton of competition for the teenager’s signature, with Sevilla and Villarreal also in the race. Roma, too, have tried to tempt him into joining while his current club, Velez Sarsfield have also offered him a senior contract.
Montoro, fortunately for Barcelona, prefers to join the Catalan outfit over the other options for now.
Likened to Andres Iniesta
Montoro’s technical proficiency is likened to a certain Andres Iniesta due to his ball manipulation and close control. Barcelona are more than happy with the reports they have about him.
The blaugranes already have Pedri in their ranks, who has been called the next Iniesta by fans and pundits alike, while the legendary midfielder has also commented on the comparisons, saying he can definitely spot the similarities.
