Barcelona have reportedly identified two positions to reinforce in the summer of 2024, with a new defensive pivot and a left-winger understood to be priorities.
The Blaugrana are seeking a natural winger on the left side, given they do not have a player of that profile in the ranks.
And, one of the names on the radars of the La Liga champions is Athletic Club and Spain speedster Nico Williams.
Barcelona will only sign Nico if he is free
Nico Williams has been on Barcelona’s radars for quite some time now, with the club having also made contact with his entourage to discuss the possibility of a transfer.
Recent reports, however, had suggested that the 21-year-old winger was close to renewing his contract with Athletic Club, given that his current one expires at the end of the season.
As such, SPORT is now reporting that Barcelona remain attentive to the development surrounding Nico as his contract extension is not yet sealed.
However, the report adds that Barça would only consider signing the Spanish international if he is available for free next summer.
If he signs a renewal, even if it is with a relatively lower release clause as has been reported, the Blaugrana would refrain from making a move, given their financial situation.

Renewal could be imminent
Apart from Barcelona, Real Madrid have also asked about Nico Williams while Premier League club Aston Villa are also keen, so much so that they would be willing to pay a fee to sign him in January.
However, Williams, whose current market value stands at €40 million, does not wish to leave Athletic through the backdoor or for free and there is great optimism that his contract renewal will be finalised imminently.
Having sent them their proposal, the Basque club are waiting for a response from Nico’s entourage. And with nothing still signed, Barcelona remain attentive.
