Japanese shuttlers sweep three titles at Petronas Malaysia International Badminton Championships

IPOH: Minoru Koga from Japan clinched the men’s singles title at the 2023 Petronas Malaysia International Badminton Championships after beating fellow countryman Takuma Kawamoto 21-17, 10-21, 21-11 in the final at the Perak Badminton Arena, here today. Minoru who took the first game 21-17, lost the second 10-21 before winning the third game 21-11 after a 60-minute dual in the all-Japan final. 

 The mixed doubles title was won by Malaysia’s Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, the fifth seeds in the competition, after beating Taiwan’s Lin Yu Chieh-Hsu Yin Hui 21-17, 21-19 in straight sets. Taiwan pair Lin Chih Chun-Sung Yu Hsuan walked away with the women’s doubles title after beating local hopefuls Ng Qi Xuan-Yap Yee 21-11, 21-18 in straight games.

 Japan also took the women’s singles title when Miho Kayama dashed local shuttler Wong Ling Ching’s title hopes with a 23-21, 21-16 victory.

 Apart from winning the men’s and women’s singles titles, Japan also clinched the men’s doubles title when Takuto Inoue-Masayuki Onodera overcame Malaysian pair Muhammad Fazriq Mohamad Razif-Wong Vin Sean 21-16, 18-21, 21-14 after a three-set thriller that lasted for more than an hour. 

 Perak Badminton Associaion president Datuk Samsuddin Hashim and the Datuk Bandar of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin attended the prize presentation ceremony for the championships that offered RM100,000 as total prize money.–Bernama
