Speaking in an interview with COPE, Real Madrid striker Joselu has claimed that Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal is a jewel that needs to be taken care of as he can be a crucial player for the Spanish national team.
Joselu and Yamal cross paths with each other in the Spanish national team camp, with the Barça starlet enjoying a breakthrough with La Roja this season.
The two are part of the squad that manager Luis de la Fuente has called up for the matches against Cyprus and Georgia coming up later this week.
Joselu praises Yamal
And, Joselu has lavished praise on Yamal, claiming that the Barcelona teenage prodigy can be a fundamental piece of the Spain setup for years to come.
“We have to look after Yamal a lot, he is a jewel of our country and we have to support him a lot and help him on a daily basis,” Joselu said during the interview.
“He’s a fantastic boy and what we do here is to support him because I think he’s going to be a fundamental part of the national team,” the Real Madrid striker added.
Joselu on Barcelona’s recent form
The veteran Spanish striker also commented on Barcelona’s recent form and how things had gone for Xavi’s men of late.
When asked if Real Madrid are playing better than their rivals at this point, he said: “Well, I think they are two different football teams.
“Barça at the beginning of the season tried to have possession, these last few games they’ve struggled a lot, but that’s also what it’s all about, making it three out of three. We played a good game against Valencia and other days you don’t do so well.”
