Given his form and explosion over the past year or so, Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has garnered plenty of interest in Spain and outside, with FC Barcelona, in particular, emerging as a strong suitor for the winger.
Indeed, the Blaugrana have shown serious interest in the 21-year-old speedster, especially considering that his contract with Athletic stands to expire at the end of the season.
Recent reports had suggested that Nico Williams was close to penning a new contract with the Basque club, but with nothing official yet, Barcelona remain attentive to his situation.
However, Real Madrid have recently entered into the picture, with reports claiming that they are interested in Nico and the player himself would prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid offered Nico, but club not considering move
Amidst this, a report from MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz (h/t Madrid Xtra) claims that Real Madrid have been offered Nico Williams.
However, the Spanish capital club are not considering a move for the Spanish international at this moment, which would come as a boost for Barcelona.
Williams, 21, has been in fine form this season, producing a return of one goal and seven assists from ten appearances in La Liga.
The winger, whose market value stands at €40 million, has also become a regular for the Spanish national team, impressing in the Euro 2024 qualifiers in recent months.
Barcelona will only sign him for free
With Real Madrid seemingly uninterested in signing Nico Williams, it does leave the path clear for Barcelona, although some clubs from the Premier League are also interested in him.
However, it must be noted that given Barça’s financial situation, they will only consider signing the 21-year-old Spaniard if he is available for free.
If he were to sign a new contract at Athletic Club, even with a relatively affordable release clause worth around €50 million, a move for him would no longer be on the table for the Catalan heavyweights.
