Tottenham manager addresses the future of Barcelona target: “He’ll get an opportunity”

With Gavi getting injured and being ruled out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season, Barcelona are looking into the possibility of signing a new midfielder to replace him.

Barcelona have reportedly decided to use the salary space created by Gavi’s injury to register Vitor Roque. As such, the signing of a new midfielder would depend on the €40 million payment for the Barça Studios deal to come through.

Giovani Lo Celso on Barcelona’s agenda

If it does, the Catalan giants have identified Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur as their preferred transfer target for January.

The 27-year-old Argentine international has been on Barcelona’s radars since the summer transfer window, with manager Xavi understood to be a big admirer.

And, if the financial situation eases up in January, the reigning La Liga champions are planning on moving for him again thanks to his proven pedigree in La Liga and the qualities he offers on the pitch.

Another factor that has put Lo Celso on Barcelona’s radar is the fact that he has hardly played for Tottenham this season, with manager Ange Postecoglou not counting on him.

It has given way to speculations over his future, but the Spurs manager recently commented on Lo Celso’s situation and future amidst the January transfer links, stating that the Argentine will get his chances.

“I looked at Lo Celso really well before I got here. You can see he has certain qualities. Technically he’s a very creative player. He’ll get an opportunity over the next few weeks to come in and make an impact,” Postecoglou said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

With James Maddison injured, and the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr set to travel for the AFCON in January, Spurs are expected to rely more on Lo Celso, which would hamper Barça’s plans of signing him. post Tottenham manager addresses the future of Barcelona target: “He’ll get an opportunity” appeared first on Barca Universal.
