FC Barcelona in the previous summer transfer window acquired a couple of high-profile players on loan but also negotiated the exits of some youth prospects on temporary loan deals.
With the intention of continuing their development away from the spotlight and in a less competitive environment, Julian Araujo was one of the players to depart on loan to Las Palmas.
The 22-year-old Mexican right-back, as it turns out, is capitalizing on his spell with many encouraging performances already in the first half of the season.
The right-back scored a fantastic goal against Getafe (2-0) on Friday, increasing his chances of returning to his parent club.
Julian Araujo’s continuation next season is being explored
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, there are chances for Julian Araujo to stay at FC Barcelona next season.
Under the tutelage of Barcelona’s former youth manager, Garcia Pimienta, Araujo’s regularity in the lineup is ascendant, with 726 minutes in La Liga and 86 in the Cup.
Having recently claimed, “My goal is to return to Barcelona,” his performances are indicative of his desire to don the Blaugrana jersey. Defensively and offensively, he has shown positive signs.
In fact, he has already met with Bojan Krkic, the player coordinator and person in charge of monitoring Barça’s loanees.
Would Araujo have a place in the squad?
Considering Barcelona desperately aim to extend Cancelo’s stay by making his transfer permanent, he will likely remain the starting option at right-back.
But Sergi Roberto’s contract ends on June 30th. and his exit is seemingly on the cards, as it is believed to be his final season.
As such, Araujo could easily slot in as the secondary full-back and provide competition to Cancelo, if Barcelona succeed with his signing.
