Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has become common knowledge in recent days.
But apart from the Uruguayan international, the Bavarian giants seem to be interested in another Barcelona star in the form of Clement Lenglet.
The French defender is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Barça but has hardly played regularly in England.
As such, there has been talk of cutting short his loan stint in the Premier League in January to send him to a different club, either on another temporary deal or a permanent transfer.
AC Milan join Bayern Munich in Lenglet pursuit
As mentioned earlier, Bayern Munich have shown an interest in signing Lenglet, even though Araujo seems to be their primary target.
But, now, according to Mundo Deportivo, AC Milan have joined the Bundesliga champions in pursuit of the Barcelona loanee ahead of the January transfer window.
The Rossoneri have lost the likes of Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu to injuries, and they recovery will take until February and March.
Milan are in need of a left-footed defender and the fact that he has no regularity or prominence with the English club is making Lenglet rethink his future.
The former Sevilla star has not played much at Villa so far this term and he has no place in Xavi’s plans either, so another move in January could be an option that can be explored.
Barcelona, for their part, are very much aware of the interest in Lenglet.
Aston Villa not looking to cut Lenglet’s loan short
However, terminating Lenglet’s loan deal and then sending him out to a different team could be a complicated operation in January.
For starters, it has been reported that Aston Villa are perfectly happy with Lenglet even though Unai Emery has hardly used the French defender in the Premier League so far this season.
So, it remains to be seen how things develop as far as Lenglet is concerned, with there being suitors for him ahead of the January window.
