Barcelona managed to close their first half of the season on a high note after sealing a much-needed victory against Almeria.
Sergi Roberto emerged as the unexpected hero of the night for the Catalan giants, contributing significantly with two crucial goals, including a decisive late match-winner.
Roberto has garnered interest from Italy
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Inter Milan have shown interest in acquiring Sergi Roberto’s services, with the player’s scoring surge aligning with developments taking place in Serie A.
Just before his two crucial goals against Almeria, Inter Milan expressed their interest in the player through an intermediary rather than directly through his representation agency.
However, the report argues that Roberto has no intention of leaving his boyhood club, as he intends to complete the campaign with Barcelona, especially after being entrusted with the captain’s armband.
In an attempt to prolong his contract with Barça for an additional season, Sergi Roberto has already instructed his agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, to not entertain any more proposals until April or May 2024, one month before his contract expires.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana sporting department is not in favor of parting ways with the La Masia graduate this winter in light of the absences in midfield, even though a cheap transfer would not hurt either.
Future could be linked with Xavi
Reports have previously stated that Roberto will only stay put if he believes he can continue to contribute and that he will leave amicably if he starts to show noticeable signs of decline.
Furthermore, Roberto’s continuity could also be ensured if Xavi stays the coach of the Catalan giants since the manager values the Spaniard’s presence significantly.
Roberto has three goals in his last two league games, and the player trusts that if he continues to help the team on the pitch as well as behind closed doors, an extension would certainly be in the offing.
