As Barcelona get set to take on Girona in a critical La Liga encounter on Sunday night, the players resumed training today after having been given a rest yesterday.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Inigo Martinez, and Gavi are not part of the training session today, with the trio out of action due to injuries.
Andreas Christensen not training today
Apart from the aforementioned trio, Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is also not part of the training session today, reports SPORT.
As per the update, the 27-year-old centre-half has been granted the day off due to personal reasons, but Xavi hopes to have him back available for the game against Girona on Sunday night.
The reason for Christensen’s absence from training today, as per the report, is that he and his partner are set to welcome their second child into the world imminently.
As such, the Dane has been allowed to not attend training today, but he is expected to be ready to face Girona at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
Araujo-Christensen likely to start
Christensen had recently seen his game time take a hit, with Inigo Martinez establishing himself ahead of the former in the pecking order.
But the Spaniard is out injured until the turn of the year, opening the door for the Danish international to reclaim his berth in the starting XI.
It is expected that Christensen will start alongside Ronald Araujo, who suffered a minor cheekbone fracture vs Atletico Madrid, at centre-back against Girona with Jules Kounde at right-back.
