It is no secret that Barcelona have made it a top priority to sign a new pivot midfielder for the summer transfer window for 2024.
But, if a report from SPORT is to be believed, the reigning La Liga champions also want to sign a winger as a priority for next summer.
Barcelona want a top winger
Barça have practically lost their wing play this season following the departure of Ousmane Dembele, with Raphinha not performing consistently enough and Lamine Yamal being eased into senior football.
Joao Felix was brought in during the summer, but he is not a traditional winger and his continuity beyond this season is also dependent on a number of factors.
The lack of wingers means that opponents have got the measure of Barça because their play is more predictable and almost everything goes through the centre.
As such, the Blaugrana recognise that the team needs a player with the ability to break forward, open up the pitch and provide good crosses for the strikers. Having the resource of a world-class winger is seen as essential.
Sancho, Sane being monitored
For Barcelona to be able to sign a top pivot and winger, some important sales could very well be needed in the summer.
Barça sporting director Deco has been scouring the market for wingers for some time. Bryan Zaragoza of Granada was an option, but Bayern Munich have signed him. Deco is also keeping tabs on Girona’s Savinho as an option for 2024.
Apart from him, SPORT reports that the reigning La Liga champions are also eyeing Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho and Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane as well.
Sancho has fallen out of favour at Man United and will be on the move soon. In fact, Barça had been touted as a possible destination for January, but that is not an option at this point.
However, it appears that the Catalans are looking at the 23-year-old Englishman as an option for the summer of 2024.
Meanwhile, Sane is also being closely monitored owing to his contract situation at Bayern Munich as his current deal expires in 2025.
Nothing has been decided yet, but Deco is looking at a variety of options as Barcelona want to rope in a top winger come summer.
