Barcelona midfield target inching closer to PSG transfer in €25 million deal

Gabriel Moscardo of Corinthians has been linked with Barcelona over the past few months as a potential target for the pivot midfield position.

The 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy has enjoyed a breakthrough year in his homeland with Corinthians, alerting a number of top clubs in Europe.

Barcelona, for one, had taken an interest in the teenage prodigy, with sporting director Deco understood to be the driving force behind it.

PSG one step closer to signing Moscardo

However, as was reported earlier this week, PSG have taken the lead over the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to sign Moscardo from Corinthians.

In fact, Joaquim Piera of SPORT is reporting that Les Parisiens are inching closer and closer to the capture of the 18-year-old midfielder possibly in the upcoming January transfer window.

As per the report, there is an internal consensus at the Parisian club regarding Moscardo. Even Luis Enrique has already given the go-ahead for the pivot, who is one of the great revelations of the year in Brazil.

Enrique believes that Moscardo has the skills to become, in the medium term, a benchmark player on the European scene. But he will need a period of acclimatisation given his youth and lack of experience at the highest level.

Negotiations for Moscardo’s future have accelerated in recent days. And PSG’s intention is to close a salary agreement with the player in the coming days and then present a firm offer to Corinthians for 100% of the youngster’s rights.

The report adds that the operation could be worth around €25 million, with all signs pointing toward Barcelona missing out on Moscardo’s signing.
