Barcelona midfielder’s latest injury is muscle-related and not due to a blow in training – report

Pedri’s fitness problems are growing into somewhat of a concern for FC Barcelona, with the midfield sensation succumbing to yet another injury earlier this month.

It is already his second injury of the season after he missed close to three months due to a muscle problem earlier in the campaign.

Pedri’s injury not due to a blow in training

Barcelona announced the injury to Pedri on the eve of the game against UD Almeria, claiming that he had suffered a blow in training leading to a minor injury.

“At this morning’s training session, the first team player Pedri suffered a knock that resulted in a minor muscle injury. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability,” the statement from Barça read.

However, now, Albert Masnou of SPORT is claiming that the injury was not due to a knock in training as was revealed by the club but a muscle-related problem that has popped up yet again.

The report goes on to claim that Pedri has had seven muscular injuries in three seasons at Barcelona which has led to him being sidelined for 384 days and 69 matches, which comes up to 46% of the matches that the team has played in the last three years.

That, without a doubt, is a concerning piece of data for Barça considering that Pedri is one of the main centrepieces of the project Xavi is building and is just 21 years old.

Time to review protocols?

As such, the report goes on to state that Barcelona might be obliged to review and reassess their fitness protocols to bring an end to Pedri’s injury issues.

The doctors, the medical department, as well as the physical trainers need to be held accountable for the problems. At the same time, reviewing the player’s personal lifestyle outside of football could also become a necessity.
