Barcelona prioritising new contract for key superstar amid Bayern Munich ‘obsession’ – Romano

Ronald Araujo has grown into a stalwart at FC Barcelona in a short period of time and is considered one of the most important players at the club, for the present and the future.

The 24-year-old is one of the best defenders in Europe and as such has been on the radars of several other elite clubs on the continent.

Manchester United had tried to lure him with a lucrative contract before he signed an extension with Barça last year until the summer of 2026.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are showing serious interest in signing the Barcelona captain in the upcoming January transfer window.

Araujo will not leave, new contract a priority

Despite Bayern Munich’s interest, there is no way Ronald Araujo will leave Barcelona in January or in the summer transfer window, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer expert goes on to claim that Barça are now prioritising a new contract offer for the Uruguayan international in 2024 and plan on holding discussions with his entourage soon to begin the process.

Bayern Munich, for their part, continue to hold a strong interest, with manager Thomas Tuchel seemingly ‘obsessed’ with signing the Barcelona defensive mainstay.

But, as things stand, the player is happy and settled at Barcelona and the club have no intentions of listening to any offers for him either, no matter how big it is.

Bayern Munich prepared to wait

Recent reports have suggested that Bayern Munich have accepted their fate and given up the pursuit of Araujo for the January transfer window.

But the Bavarian giants still retain some hope of landing the Barcelona superstar in the summer and are prepared to wait to make their move.

However, with Barcelona planning on handing Araujo a new contract as a priority, there is little to no chance of Bayern Munich snaring him away from Catalonia.
