Barcelona have a wealth of young talent coming through the ranks from their La Masia academy. Following in the footsteps of Ansu Fati, Gavi, and Alejandro Balde, the likes of Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez are enjoying their breakthrough this term.
Another player who is starting to make some waves at the first-team level despite only featuring in a few matches is young striker Marc Guiu.
The 17-year-old centre-forward is quickly making a name for himself thanks to his goalscoring ability, having found the back of the net on his La Liga and UEFA Champions League debuts.
Guiu was also on target for Barcelona in their 2-3 friendly defeat to Club America earlier this week and is showcasing his goalscoring acumen at such a young age.
Barcelona wish to renew Guiu
Now, Jaume Mercet of SPORT is reporting that Barcelona want to offer a new contract to Marc Guiu and secure his long-term future at the club.
The teenage striker joined the Blaugrana in the summer of 2013 when he was just seven years old. He has been playing every weekend at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper for more than ten years with all the Barça youth teams.
From the prebenjamín to the first team, Marc Guiu has successfully overcome all the obstacles he has encountered along the way and is now reaping the rewards.
Barça have always valued Guiu’s enormous potential. They are delighted with his performance and wants to count on the striker for the future.
Current contract expires in 2025
There is no rush to agree and sign a renewal because Guiu finishes his current contract in June 2025.
But Barcelona’s intention is to negotiate a contract extension to ensure the continuity of the promising striker for the next seasons.
Neither the salary amounts nor the duration of the new contract have yet been discussed, but the player’s intention is not to put any restrictions on his continuity at Barça.
The intention of both parties is clear, to continue together on a path that has now spanned more than a decade together.
Barcelona desires to be able to secure Guiu’s continuity before the interest of other clubs in a player who is proving to be one of the most emerging youth strikers in Europe.
