Over the past few weeks, Barcelona have been credited with an interest in controversial Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, who is shining on loan at Getafe in La Liga.
The Red Devils academy graduate signed for Getafe during the summer after there was no way back for him in England, after he faced charges of attempted rape and violence, which have since been dropped.
Making the most of the new lease on life he has received in Spain, the attacker has been showcasing his best qualities at Getafe, bagging five goals and four assists from 15 games.
Barcelona want Greenwood, will offer big money
As such, Greenwood has seemingly caught the attention of Barcelona, among several other clubs in Europe.
In fact, reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, claim that Barça would be willing to offer €45 million to sign Greenwood from Manchester United in the summer.
On top of that, it is also being claimed that the reigning La Liga champions would even hand him the iconic No. 10 kit, previously donned by the great Lionel Messi.
The No. 10 kit is currently vacant after Ansu Fati left the club on loan last summer and there are chances that he will be sold permanently in the summer.
As such, the legendary shirt number will not be occupied and as per the report, Greenwood could be offered the chance to take that shirt, if Barcelona sign him.
Baseless rumours?
While there may be some tentative interest from Barcelona in Greenwood, the possibility of the club shelling out such a sum on him in the summer is pretty much out of the question.
Given the club’s FFP issues and the need to sign a world-class pivot midfielder, it seems unlikely that they will spend €45 million on a forward, especially having recently brought in Vitor Roque.
While Greenwood might be doing good at Getafe, there would be a chance of Barcelona facing backlash from their fanbase if he is signed, much like it was at Manchester United.
