Barcelona are going through one of the most difficult stages that they have experienced under the leadership of Xavi Hernandez so far.
The club are coming on the back of two back-to-back losses to Girona and Royal Antwerp, which was followed by a draw with Valencia, leaving them with very little chance of competing for the league title this season.
As the club look to gain some winning momentum, the impending arrival of Vitor Roque could serve as a sigh of relief to many, majorly for sporting reasons.
The Brazilian whizkid is coming on the back of a stellar spell with Athletic Paranaense and could add some real firepower to Barça’s offensive lines.
Barcelona’s second strategy behind Vitor Roque
While Roque’s arrival would undoubtedly power up the Barcelona frontline, a recent report from EFE Agency (h/t Diario SPORT) has outlined the club’s economic reasons for going after Roque.
It appears the Catalans are looking to penetrate the Brazilian and South American market through the signing of Vitor Roque. This is, after all, an area Barcelona have not been able to exploit since the departure of Neymar in 2017.
The subsequent exit of Lionel Messi did not help either, leaving only scraps of marketing opportunities in the region.
But with the signing of Vitor Roque, Barcelona have renewed hope of re-entering the market. Many marketing experts in Brazil, including Rene Salviano, believe Roque can challenge the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, in terms of marketability.
The Athletic PR starlet is already the second hottest prospect in Brazil, only behind the promising Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.
Barcelona, therefore, are likely to do much more than just train Vitor Roque to be the ideal goalscorer upfront. They are expected to market the Brazilian international highly, in an attempt to attract millions of fans from the region.
