Barcelona were expected to have a muted January transfer window, especially in light of the club’s poor balance sheets that barred them from signing any new players.
However, recent developments have led Barcelona to consider some moves in the winter market, with the club notably open to selling a couple of their star defenders, in a bid to bring in fresh funds.
Barcelona to enjoy better margins in January
According to Adrian Sanchez, Barcelona will go into the January transfer market with more and better margins.
Sanchez further suggests that both La Liga and Javier Tebas have accepted the failures of Spain’s stringent Financial Fair Play rules.
This comes after a report that claimed La Liga will loosen up their financial restrictions in order to allow its club more autonomy in the market.
La Liga indeed had one of the toughest regulations when it comes to the economic side of things. But that is about to change.
Barcelona to benefit
La Liga’s renewed restrictions could come as a major boon for Barcelona, who are in desperate need of reinforcements heading into the January transfer window.
If the Catalans operate with higher margins, they will be able to at least sign a short-term replacement for Gavi, who has been ruled out with an ACL injury.
On the flip side, Barça are open to offloading a few of the key players. Their potential sales could help the club with some much-needed revenue.
Barcelona, though, are not yet completely out of the crosshairs of the Spanish football federation or the UEFA. And the club must still proceed with caution as they look to move on from this economic turmoil.
