Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is currently under immense pressure, especially following a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Girona recently.
There are pockets of unrest brewing inside the dressing room, with players starting to show their dissatisfaction towards the coach.
Xavi, therefore, needs to do something fast before the situation gets out of control. One of the Spaniard’s primary objectives is to bring in a few new players in January.
Xavi retains interest in Lo Celso
Barcelona have already confirmed the impending arrival of Vitor Roque during the January transfer window.
But according to Sky Sports, Xavi is pushing for the signing of another creative player in the form of Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentine international has been a Barcelona target for a while now and was notably linked with a summer move to Catalonia, but it did not materialise.
Nevertheless, Xavi has retained interest in the player, especially after the injury of Gavi. The Barça coach, in fact, has asked the board to make the transfer possible and views the Lo Celso pursuit as ‘proof of their support’ for him.
Lo Celso’s resurgence at Spurs
After coming back from a loan spell at Villarreal, not many expected Lo Celso to remain at Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.
But his prolonged stay in North London appears to have paid off for both parties, with the Argentine enjoying a swift resurgence lately.
The former PSG starlet has started three of the last four league matches for Spurs, playing a crucial role in the creative department.
Tottenham are extremely reluctant to sanction Lo Celso’s exit, more so given his recent resurgence, coupled with James Maddison’s injury and the possibility of losing some midfielders for AFCON 2024.
