The year 2024 is going to be an important one for FC Barcelona. The club have plans to get rid of their economic distress and there might be several changes to the squad as well.
The Catalans are already looking to offload some of the unwanted stars. On the flip side, they are eager to keep hold of players who are essential to the club’s long-term project.
For the large part of the season, it was believed that Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo qualify in that segment, with Barcelona determined to keep them beyond the summer.
Felix not included in Xavi’s plans for next season
However, according to Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito, Joao Felix is not included in Xavi’s plans at Barcelona next season.
This is a major development in the Barça camp, considering the fact that Felix was hailed as one of Barcelona’s better signings in the summer.
The Portuguese international, whose market value stands at €40 million,, did enjoy an excellent start to his life in Catalonia. But his performances have diminished greatly since, with the player often struggling with a lack of productivity these days.
Felix’s dip in form
Joao Felix’s sudden downturn is greatly backed up by numbers. To put things into perspective, the forward was involved in five goals in his first four competitive matches for the club.
However, since his third league game for Barcelona, Felix has racked up only one assist. Even in terms of goal, the Portuguese international was going through a rut between late September to late November.
The former SL Benfica starlet showed signs of improvement, scoring twice in the last five encounters.
However, that slight upturn in form might not be enough to convince Barcelona to retain by the end of the season. The forward still lacks consistency, which was evident in his performance against Barbastro.
As such, doubts are creeping up about signing him permanently at the club, although there are some within the administration who believe he can come good.
