In 12 hours’ time, Barcelona will be kicking things off against CA Osasuna in the second semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup, with a spot in the finals against Real Madrid awaiting the winners.
Ahead of the big game against Jagoba Arrasate’s side tonight, Barcelona have been handed a major fitness boost.
Key midfielder Pedri was a major doubt for the game and had travelled to Saudi Arabia with the hope being that he could play in the finals if Barcelona qualify.
But, the 21-year-old star has stepped up his recovery big time recently. Indeed, Pedri has seemingly recovered fully, having trained with the rest of the group on Wednesday.
Now, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the Spanish international will indeed be available to play some minutes against Osasuna later tonight.
As iterated earlier, Pedri did the training session with the rest of his teammates yesterday, which was a strong indicator that he will be ready to face Arrasate’s men in the semi-finals.
Considering his injury problems in the past, it would make sense for Barcelona to not rush the Spaniard back into the thick of things.
As such, having him on the bench and handing him some minutes in the second half would be the best approach for Xavi Hernandez & co.
While Pedri is ready, the same cannot be said for Joao Cancelo, who is definitively ruled out of tonight’s clash, although there is hope he might recover for the final, should Barça qualify.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gavi, and Inigo Martinez are all out of the Super Cup entirely.
