Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has agreed a contract extension with the Blues that removes any uncertainty over her immediate future at the club, 90min understands.

Kerr has been sidelined for the next few months as a result of an ACL injury she suffered during Chelsea's warm weather winter training camp in Morocco.

The 30-year-old, who is a two-time WSL Golden Boot winner and the reigning FWA Women's Footballer of the Year, has an existing deal that is due to expire at the end of this season.

It had raised speculation over her future, with rumours of a potential move back to the United States, where Kerr previously played with Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL before joining Chelsea in 2020. But 90min understands an extension of her Blues contract has been agreed until 2025.

It means that Kerr will play for Chelsea again next season once her ACL rehab and recovery is complete, while the deal also includes an option for an additional 12 months to 2026.

Kerr's fiancée, USWNT midfielder Kristie Mewis, recently joined fellow WSL side West Ham United on an 18-month contract until 2025. The pair's relationship has been prominently featured in Netflix series Under Pressure, which focuses on the United States team's journey to and during the 2023 World Cup last summer. Mewis had said in an episode that she is "over the long-distance thing".

As it stands, their respective contracts with London clubs are now due to expire at the same time at the end of June 2025, not accounting for the option of an additional year Kerr will have with Chelsea.

In the short-term, Kerr's injury is a huge blow to Chelsea as they aim to win a fifth consecutive WSL title and also deliver an elusive Champions League trophy for outgoing manager Emma Hayes, who will leave the club after 12 years in the summer to become new USWNT head coach.
