Bayern Munich are enduring their toughest season in well over a decade. The club have already been knocked out of the DFB Pokal and are facing a difficult time in the Bundesliga.

The Bavarians are trailing Bayer Leverkusen by five points with 13 matches left. They were swept aside 3-0 in their most recent encounter against Xabi Alonso’s men, outlining the club’s problems this season.

Bayern’s struggle this term will surely have a trickle-down effect in the coming summer, and we might witness multiple star players leaving the club.

One of them is Joshua Kimmich. The midfielder faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena, with his contract expiring in 2025.

Kimmich could be an option for Barcelona

It is no secret that Barcelona are keen on signing a new defensive midfielder this summer, with Kimmich emerging as one of the club’s dream targets.

The Catalans were closely linked with a move for the German international last summer. And according to Gerard Romero, Kimmich could be a serious option for Barça this summer as well.

Due to the club’s economic turmoil, coupled with an inflated salary mass, it was believed that Kimmich was going to be an unrealistic target for Barcelona this summer.

However, as the season progresses, certain factors are starting to favour Barça, including Kimmich being unhappy at Bayern.

How can Barcelona pull off this deal?

Nevertheless, signing Joshua Kimmich is going to be a tough ask for Barcelona, with the player’s market value standing at €75 million.

Barcelona, though, can still afford the German international if they make certain adjustments to the squad.

One of them could be the sale of at least two star players. Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong are among the top candidates, with Bayern, of all clubs, being interested in the former.

Another key factor will be to sanction the sale of all the unwanted stars, which could free up a chunk of the salary mass, thus allowing Barcelona to cover Kimmich’s wages.

But these levers remain far-fetched, as far as Barcelona are concerned and only time will tell what the future holds for Kimmich this summer.
