Arsenal have agreed to terminate the contract of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson with immediate effect, according to a report.
Runarsson was signed from Dijon in September 2020 as cover for Bernd Leno, but the Iceland international would struggle across his six appearances in his debut season and was quickly pushed further down the pecking order.
He would be loaned out the following summer and has since spent time with OH Leuven, Alanyaspor and, most recently, Cardiff City, where he has been operating as the backup option for the Championship side.
Now, Fabrizio Romano states that Arsenal have agreed to terminate Runarsson's contract entirely, also breaking their loan deal with Cardiff at the same time.
A move to Danish giants FC Copenhagen is on the cards, with Bold confirming a switch to Denmark is in its final stages.
Runarsson is set to become the first player to leave Arsenal this winter, with a handful of other players facing uncertain futures ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Fringe right-back Cedric Soares had been in talks over a switch to Galatasaray, but the Turkish giants have since struck a deal to sign Serge Aurier from Nottingham Forest. Cedric's contract expires this summer.
There could also be an exit for winger Marquinhos, who was recalled from his loan with Nantes earlier this month. Reports suggest Brazilian side Fluminense are exploring a deal which could see them land the 20-year-old's signature permanently.
Jakub Kiwior's agent has rejected suggestions he could leave Arsenal before January's deadline, with Mikel Arteta's squad seemingly set for the second half of the season.
