Barcelona allowed promising La Masia defender Mika Marmol leave the club for FC Andorra a couple of years ago, albeit retaining 50% of the player’s rights.
The left-footed Spanish ace enjoyed a fine season at Andorra, prompting Las Palmas to snap him up last summer, with Barça still retaining the 50% rights.
Heading into the summer though, Marmol is attracting a lot of interest. As already reported, both Girona and Atletico Madrid are keen on the young centre-half.
And it appears that a heavyweight from the Premier League has also taken note of the former Barcelona defender.
Manchester City contact Mika Marmol
Indeed, as per MARCA, Manchester City have set their sights on Mika Marmol and have even contacted his agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, to explore the possibility of a summer transfer.
The report states that the Cityzens’ idea would be to sign the 21-year-old defender from Las Palmas in the summer and loan him out so that he can continue to play regularly and keep developing.
With Girona interested, a trade between them and Man City could be feasible given that they share the same owners. However, with both teams expected to be in the Champions League next season, the issue could get a bit complicated.
In that scenario, Las Palmas would ask Manchester City to let Marmol continue at the Canary Islands on loan.
Either way, the operation could end up being a profitable one for Barcelona for they continue to own 50% of the player’s rights.
If a club like Man City come calling, the fee involved will likely be significant and given Barcelona’s financial situation, every penny in the coffers will be welcome. As such, they will be watching the situation with a keen eye.
