Barcelona defender insists future ‘depends on the club’ after 3-1 win vs Napoli

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has insisted that he is happy at the club amid speculations over his future, with Bayern Munich one of the teams very interested in the Uruguayan international.

The Bavarian giants have been tracking the Barça third captain since January and have him on their radars for the summer.

Barcelona see Araujo as untouchable and the player has also time and again reiterated his commitment to the club. But the rumours refuse to go away.

Speaking to the media after the 3-1 win against Napoli, Araujo insisted that he is happy at Barcelona, although he did state that his future was dependent on the club.

“My future depends on the club. Everyone knows that I am very happy here at Barça. And I’m very grateful to Xavi,” said Araujo, leaving the ball in the club’s court as far as his continuity is concerned.

Discussing the 3-1 win against Napoli, Araujo said: “We are very happy with the qualification, we played a great game at home. The support of our fans was very important from the first minute.”

“We knew that after our second goal, they would dominate us a little, but we knew how to stay composed. Although they scored a goal, we were very good in defence. This is important in the Champions League.”

“Today is a turning point, it’s an important step forward. Whoever we face in the next round, we will go all out to win,” he further added.

The captain reserved praise for Pau Cubarsi, who enjoyed a stunning performance at Montjuic last night, saying: “Cubarsí is spectacular. We complement each other very well and I hope the partnership can last for many years. He’s the club’s future.”

Echoing the sentiments of Fermin Lopez, Araujo also insisted that he hopes Xavi stays at Barcelona beyond this season, saying:

“Yes, of course (I want Xavi to stay). It’s a personal decision, he felt that way. We are very happy with him, I believe that since Xavi’s arrival, I have grown a lot as a player and obviously I am very grateful. It’s a personal decision for him.”

Having showed up to speak to the media donning a retro-Barcelona shirt, Araujo explained: “The truth is that I have a lot of them at home. The club gives them to me. But honestly, I love them.”
