Barcelona have two former La Masia talents on their agenda – report

It is no secret that Barcelona are exploring exciting market opportunities for the upcoming summer and for that reason, they have identified two former La Masia players namely, Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons, reports Javier Gascon via Mundo Deportivo.

The two RB Leipzig stars were at the forefront of their team’s battle against Real Madrid last night in the UEFA Champions League and although they ended on the losing side, it is safe to say they deserved more.

After the game, Barça fans took to social media to urge the club to bring back the former La Masia duo and MD reports that the pair has been on the Catalans’ agenda, but signing them is not feasible at this moment.

Their contracts are complex to breach

It is to be noted that Olmo has a contract with Leipzig until 2027. He joined the German club from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020 and in 2023, he extended his stay for four more years with a significant improvement and a €60 million buyout clause.

As for Simons, his contract, too, runs until 2027, but with PSG as he is currently on loan to Leipzig. It is to be noted that the midfielder left La Masia in 2019 for PSG but did not get the expected playing time.

In 2022, he signed with PSV Eindhoven, performed well, and PSG activated a buyback clause of €6 million. Interestingly enough, the 20-year-old is represented by renowned agent Rafaela Pimienta, who recently met with Deco, in order to manage other high-level operations.

If Barcelona indeed show interest, they must make sure that they match PSG’s valuation of €60 million of the player.

Considering Barcelona’s financial health, it is highly unlikely that they will even think of moving for anyone.

At this moment, the team is largely focusing on acquiring those who can not only bring value but can also arrive for cheap or at best, on a free transfer, which is why Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is being touted as a potential candidate.
